Lovere, a village much loved by tourists
One of the “Most beautiful villages in Italy”, Lovere was described by the English writer Lady Mary Wortley Montagu as “the most romantic place I have ever seen in my life”. Lovere is a town located in the province of Bergamo, Valcamonica. It overlooks Lake Sebino and for this reason it attracts many visitors, especially during the summer.

This village, included in the list of the most beautiful in Italy, developed between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries and today has about 5,000 inhabitants.
It has always had an important role for the inhabitants of the Valley above all because in the past it was under Roman domination for a long time and was part of the Holy Roman Empire.
To reach Lovere you can use the car (15 MINS), the bus or the boat.
WHAT TO VISIT IN LOVERE
Lovere is a village much loved by tourists and is a meeting point frequented by both young people and adults. It has many places of interest to offer, especially from a historical point of view.
First of all, a walk along the lakefront that starts from the market area and continues towards the center of the town, where there are many bars and restaurants that people can use and from which you can enjoy the view that the lake offers, is not to be missed.
There are also very interesting religious architectures such as the Basilica of Santa Maria in Valvendra, the Church of San Giorgio, the convent of the so-called “Cappuccini Friars” and the Civic Tower.

In the central square is the famous “Bar Centrale” where Ice Cream can be a full course meal. Hundreds of different tastes made up into hundreds of different dishes and near the bus stop too!
THE NEW PORT AREA
At the far end o lovere is the “new port” with boat club, restaurants, childrens games, bars, bingo! Swimming pool both inside and outside in summer. Popular with the young and often crowded on Saturday night. For shopping lovers, however, there is an area between Lovere and Costa Volpino where there are many shops and nearby a large cinema called “Cinema Iride”.
THE BASILICA DI SANTA MARIA IN VALVENDRA
It is the largest church in the diocese of Brescia and stands in the northern part of Lovere, outside. It was born as a votive sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin of Grace by the families of the Borgo.
Built after 1473, it has nine chapels and a presbytery dating back to the Baroque era. The rich internal decoration is made up of representations arranged in relation to their importance: on the walls of the left nave we find the sibyls with the mottos, far from the evangelical announcement; on the right aisle instead we have the prophets, and on the vault frame the fathers and doctors of the church.
CHURCH OF SAN GIORGIO
Located in a position overlooking the medieval village, it is one of the oldest religious buildings in Lovere. Dating back to 1252, unfortunately there is nothing left of the original structure.
The interior has a decoration dating back to the classical period and a plan with three naves: while the lateral ones are cross vaulted, the central one is punctuated by Corinthian semi-columns, supporting a frieze with frame, on which a large barrel vault is set.
THE CONVENT OF THE CAPUCHIN FRIARS
Located in a position overlooking the medieval village, it is one The convent of the Capuchin Friars of Lovere stands on the top of the hill of San Maurizio and today represents a spiritual meeting point for the whole territory. Thanks to its favorable position to enjoy the view, you can enjoy a view that extends to the whole Sebino. A welcome activity is foreseen which consists of a day of retreat or meeting which offers community spaces with the possibility of walking in the woods. At the end of the tour, a hot meal is offered.

CIVIC TOWER
The Civic Tower is a public building of medieval origin which for hundreds of years housed the town hall and the Loverese judiciary (court and prisons).
In the past it was also the center where trade took place, in particular of substances connected with the production of wool, an activity in which Lovere excelled in the Renaissance period.
Today on the tower, about 28 meters high, there are some frescoes recalling the various lordships that dominated the town, among which a fresco with the lion, symbol of the Venetian dominion, bearing the date 1442 stands out.
TADINI ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS
For art lovers, the ideal is to pay a visit to the Tadini Academy of Fine Arts. This academy is a testimony of the neoclassical period in Italy. Its Gallery houses a prestigious collection of ancient art, which also includes works by Antonio Canova, an important Italian painter and sculptor.
Finds such as porcelain, minerals, fossils and taxidermied animals and volumes of various kinds collected in the Library are also preserved, which include works of literature, philosophy, theatre, history, travel literature and natural sciences.

THE FOUNTAINS OF PIAZZA XIII MARTYRS
This semicircular square is located in the center of the town and is especially known for the stone fountain located there. The latter stands on a base and is surrounded by two lions and two horses, from whose mouths water flows and falls into the shell below.
Dedicated to the 13 Loverese martyrs who died during the wars for the independence of Italy, this beautiful fountain is part of a truly evocative setting within the buildings of this small square on the lake.
The image of the woman who represents freedom and who holds a broken chain in her left hand is significant.

Collocata in una posizione che sovrasta il borgo medievale, è uno degli edifici religiosi più antichi di Lovere. Risalente al 1252, purtroppo non è rimasto nulla della struttura originaria.
L’interno presenta una decorazione risalente al periodo classico e una pianta a tre navate: mentre quelle laterali sono voltate a crociera, quella centrale è scandita da semicolonne corinzie, reggenti un fregio con cornice, su cui si imposta una grande volta a botte.
